Sicilian. Sartorialist. Sensuality. These were the three words that inspired Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in their Fall/ Winter 2010 Collection. This emotional and nostalgic show moved audiences in a way that hasn’t been done for seasons in Milan.
On February 28, 2010, fashion spectators expected to see the latest Dolce and Gabbana Show. A show normally filled with a sexy edge that the famous Italian designers are known for. But the audiences walked away with a fulfilled sense of self and renewed love for the talented duo.
According to Style.com, the Dolce and Gabbana show displayed a sense of Italian craftsmanship and Sicilian spirit. The Italian designers started with a tastefully done black and white video playing on the back screen showing the designers fit models, adjust clothes and take measurements.
Audiences viewed moments of Domenico and Stefano creating clothes, art, and beauty with looks of sheer passion and love on their faces. Seeing a designer with their pieces is such a intimate and private moment, that the spectators of the show couldn’t help but allow a few tears fall in the simple beauty of it all.
According to Dolce and Gabbana.com, the collection was an emotional salute to the heart and the soul of the brand. However, the video was not the only thing that affected amazed viewers of the show. Model Natasha Poly strutted down the runway with the opening look, a classic Dolce and Gabbana blazer paired with very short black shorts.
“I would have to say that the Fall 2010 Dolce & Gabbana runway is very elegant, filled with tailored pieces, laced designs, and classic prints,” said junior Jessica Chan.
With impeccable craftsmanship, the collection concentrated on tailored jackets in different proportions and lengths. Fascination from the past also showed in black, crochet, lace, and drapery fabrics that resemble the older work of Dolce and Gabbana.
Another popular trend seen throughout the show was soft, transparent shapes that gave a sense of sensuality. The collection played with long and short pieces as well as contrasts of the lightness of chiffon and thickness of knitwear for both dresses and jackets. The patterns of leopard and polka dot prints revealed the sexiness of a woman with use of floral drapery fabrics.
“It was really beautiful and vintage-looking without being too referential. That’s hard to pull off,” said Fashionista.com Editor Laura Sherman who attended the show.
At the end of the show, all the models were dressed similarly to the opening look of a tailored blazer with very short black shorts as they strutted together. Ultimately, the show was one of Dolce and Gabbana best. As always, Dolce and Gabbana never fail to disappoint the wants of real women, and this show is no exception.
