Seniors pose for Western Day

As the school year opens, there is one thing on the minds of a large part of our school community, senior year. The class of 2010, our school’s second graduating class, is steadily gearing up for college applications, SAT tests and internships.

However, with all the work and responsibilities that needs to be taken care of, who has time for fun? Fortunately, thanks to Parent Coordinator Mrs.Lentini and Principal Ms. Horowitz, there will be plenty of fun this year on senior spirit days.

While the first graduating class expressed their spirit all in one week, the class of 2010 will do things their way. Instead of one senior week dedicted to school spirit, we will extend our spirit, expressing it for one day each month of the school year.

Moreover, the current Senior Council will choose the themes for each day with the help of the senior advisories.

The first senior spirit day, on September 25, 2009, was a Western theme, where many seniors dressed up in plaid shirts and cowboy boots.

“The school spirit days will help bring a sense of a closer knit community among the senior class,” said Ms Horowitz. “And on top of that, it’s fun.”

With the themes varying from Decades Day to Nerd Day and Superhero Day, it was evident that seniors last years had fun dressing up and letting go of all the stress that comes with senior year.

This year the current seniors will put their own spin on senior spirit.

“Western Day was such an awesome theme, and I am glad I was able to participate in a school event,” said senior Angela Matrone.

Most participants felt Western Day was a great hit because they were able

to express their own individuality within the western theme.

“Allowing the current seniors to choose themes different from the previous senior class, shows the different traits and uniqueness of the class as a whole,” said Mrs. Lentini.
