Did the Senior Trip go Downhill?

Seniors celebrate their final months together as a class.

What makes a senior scream? Going on a senior trip away from parents, siblings, and home responsibilities. Also, a trip for seniors to have fun outside of school but with more than just their close personal friends. The trip took place at the Honors Haven Resort in Catskills, New York.

Obstacles were thrown at the seniors before they even went on the trip. The original trip was scheduled for February 26- 28, 2010, but was postponed due to the massive snowstorm that even closed the school for the day. This was the first time that many of the seniors were hoping that the snow would pass over the greater part of the tri-state area but that wasn’t the case.

Students had to have their bags thoroughly checked, they had to be sealed into their rooms with the doors taped meal whether they were hungry or not. Is all this trouble worth the fun?

As seniors arrived at Honors Haven Resort they were greeted by by the director and planner of the trip. He gave them the rules of the trip and what protocols they needed to follow. Students were given orange wristbands that couldn’t be taken off. ‘’The security was annoying,’’ said by senior Ho Lee.

Seniors were given an itinerary and room keys and began their weekend. Music played, people danced, ran through hallways, and checked out the hotel that they would be staying in for the weekend.

Seniors were excited to go snow tubing but were slightly disappointed. The snow tubing at the resort was very small and not exciting enough. Seniors later learned that the big snow tubing on the mountain was canceled due to the rain.

In addition, paintball was also canceled due to the unfortunate weather. However, seniors found other activities to occupy their time. Over the weekend students were allowed to roller skate, play laser tag, go to the karaoke party, and the nightclub.

One event that could’ve turned the senior trip upside down was the breaking of the mirror. On saturday afternoon, CSI HS chaperones created a scavenger hunt just for the CSI HS seniors. Seniors got a little over excited when playing. Students ran up and down the halls screaming and shouting trying to get all the items on the list before time ran out. One senior was pushed into his room and into the mirror door. ‘R.I.P. Mirror’ became a Facebook status for many seniors as they returned to Staten Island.

Seniors had various opinions of the trip. ‘’It was great, especially the club on Friday and Saturday night. We had a lot of fun in the pool with the ladies,’’ said senior Ola Afolabi.

The senior trip was what the seniors made of it.
