Principal for a Day, Matt Signore talking in front of a class.
October 20th, 2009, the Chief Executive Officer of Warner Music Corporation, Matt Signore was Principal for the Day. From music booth to hitting the books, Signore took on the role of our principal.
Principal for the Day has been around for 14 years making a difference in every New York City school. PENCIL is a corporation which helps school communities by allowing business leaders to strengthen the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Melissa Leitman, the partnership coordinator of Brooklyn and Staten Island, makes sure collaborators have the greatest impact on student achievement.
Signore was given a tour of The Jerome Parker Campus and introduced to the student body to see what needs to be improved.
Signore then spoke to our economic classes about the music industry and met with principal Aimee Horowitz to discuss ways to help our school.
“He is going to be a great asset to our school. He has creative ideas and relates well to kids. He is passionate about his work, and about partnering with our school to create oppurtunities for our students. I am excited about our new partnership,” said Horowitz.
“I really hope that with his help, our school will be able to have more funds,” said senior, Wingsum Cheung.
Opening opportunities was what Signore accomplished. Similar to the College Now program at CSI, Signore is trying to start a program at Drexel University for our students who are interested in the music industry.
As principal for the day, Singore visited the economics class and left the students with a wealth of information. Ms Francis and her students learned about the music industry.
“The visit from Mr. Signore was a special opportunity for students in my economic classes,” said social studies teacher Ms Francis.“We discussed a lot of topics that came up in our study, including how the illegal downloading industry (Internet file sharing) and current recession has affected Signore field.”
Signore has more then 14 years of financial management experience in the music industry. He previously worked for Island records, but is now the CFO of Warner Music Corporation.
“It was a great experience to come to a small school where everyone is like a family,” said Signore. “I mainly wanted to help improve the school.”
Only here for one day, Signore left his an impression, and we hope to see more of him.
