Is It Really That Lovely After All?

The Lovely Bones is a number one selling novel, but will the movie be a number one box office hit? Everyone is hyped to see this movie, especially those who read the book, which is filled with mystery and vengeance, but are they building up the movie to something it will not live up to?

The Lovely Bones is based on the fictional murder of 14-year old Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), and how her death weighs on the relationship of the Salmon family. Susie is stuck in what they call the in between, which is the plane between life and death. She is the only person, besides her killer, who knows who is responsible for her death.

The new young actress Saoirse Ronan was brilliant in playing the part as Susie Salmon in The Lovely Bones. She won four awards for her performance in the movie and was nominated for six more. This has not been her first on screen performance, and after this one it will not be her last.

Susie’s father, Jack Salmon (Mark Wahlberg), refuses to give up on figuring out who killed his daughter, and when he finds the killer all he can think about is avenging Susie’s death.

Neighbor Mr. Harvey (Stanley Tucci) receives extra negative attention from Jack Salmon about the recent death of Susie, but the police officer assigned to the case, Len Fenerman (Michael Imperioli), cannot seem to find anything incriminating about him.

The characters and the plot thicken as the movie unravels. The movie brings about so many different emotions in the matter of two hours. In the mist of all the horror and sadness the movie still finds a place for humor. The movie is well worth the time and money.

Although, some people can still argue that the movie was not anywhere near as good as the book because the story line was changed a little. The book was set up with the murder first and then flashbacks, episodically rather then following a sequential order. It’s all a matter of opinion the book and movie had the same idea and brought about the same points. The order doesn’t matter that much, but to some it was a big deal.

“It was a pretty freaky movie. When I first saw the previews, I thought it would be like an adventure movie with a bunch of suspense. But it was really more of a mystery kind of movie. The main character was my favorite actor because she played her role so well. There were a few graphic scenes, and a lot of plot twists,” said senior Vincent Arcello.

This movie was directed by Peter Jackson. The Lovely Bones was nominated for twelve awards and won five awards between the actors for their performances in it and for the screenplay. It is currently number three in the box office. This is a movie worthy of a box office hit regardless of what other people may say about The Lovely Bones.

  1. Hi, I am aware this is probably quite strange to hear, but this post helps me to get through the day, when my boss is shouting at me constantly A couple of my buddies told me about it but I did not find it for some time, so a few days ago I was very excited to finally stumble upon it! Myself, I don't blog at all because I simply don't have the time but I do love to read other people's work. I just wanted to comment to show my gratitude for your entries and I also wanted to let you know that way too many authors don't get any credit for their excellent work, credit that is, in my opinion well deserved. Given the topic you might not think this is real and perhaps doubt that any person could like it so much, but I truly want you to continue as you began. It's number 1!
